February 4, 2009
Consequently, he also believes that the next leader should be an effective change agent. "There are only two things that he or she must do: follow the law and enforce the law. And one other thing is very important. Can he or she also inspire us? You will be amazed at the changes we can see in the country. We can't always say that there are just a lot of things to be fixed in here. We can't delay anymore." The next leader too, he says, should be able to answer the big question of the Filipino voter. Escudero, relaxed as he is, stands up and exchanges pleasantries to us his guests. But the big question has yet to be answered. We finally get the chance to pop the question. There was only laughter at the room as he gives his hint. "I am yet to fully comply with the legal requirements of running for office. Let's just see what happens on Oct. 10, my birthday, when I turn 40."
